Bellydance with Martina

Megan

A life-long visual artist, Megan found her true passion in the creative movement of bellydance at the age of 21.

With little dance in her background Megan quickly took to the art form. With the help of yoga and pilates training she gained bodily awareness and flexibility. She soon began teaching her own bellydance classes at a local Arts Centre which she found truly rewarding by seeing others find a love for a dance that has inspired her so much.

Troupes

From the Spring of 2007 to the Summer of 2009 Megan was a member of Turquoise — Vancouver’s largest tribal fusion troupe. In the Spring of 2009 Megan became one of the founding members of the troupe Ginger Blue along with Sally Myrfield, and director Martina Crowe-Hewett. They made their debut at Tribal Fest of the same year. Ginger Blue performs frequently throughout the lower mainland.

In September of 2008 Megan became a member of Urban Dance Co.’s competetive tribal fusion dance troupe, Lazuline. Lazuline competed in the Peak, Dance Power and Dream Team competitions and received gold in each. They were also honoured with a “Most Promising of 2009” award in the Dream Team competition. Lazuline continues to train and perfrom out of Urban Dance Company. The troupe is directed by Martina Crowe-Hewett.

Training

Nowadays, Megan takes up chances to train with the many of dance masters who visit the Greater Vancouver area to teach workshops.

In May of 2009 Megan attended at three day intensive with Suhaila Salimpour in Richmond, BC, and certified in level one of Suhaila’s format. Megan intends to continue her training with Suhaila and will soon upgrade her certification.

Megan owes much of her inspiration and determination to her original and current teacher, Martina Crowe-Hewett.

Performing

Megan loves any chance to perform. Performing dance is a type of meditation to her. As she steps on stage the music takes over and her love for dance is released.
