Martina
Martina started dancing at a young age. She trained in ballet, jazz, tap and modern. However, her journey in dance happened upon bellydance seven years ago and she quickly discovered she had found her passion. Martina has been fortunate to have had lovely teachers guide her. She has trained with Rachel Brice, Sharon Kihara, Kami Liddle, Mardi Love, Zoe Jakes, Heather Stants , Unmata, Samantha Hasthorpe, Carolena of Fat Chance Bellydance, Jillina, and her current teacher Suhaila Salimpour. She is proud to say she is level 2 certified in the Suhaila Salimpour format and will be working towards her level 3 certification in 2011.
In 2004 Martina became the founder and creative director Bellyfringe Bellydance. Bellyfringe Bellydance consists of quality classes, workshops, and live stage productions. She is also the director of tribal fusion troupes Turquoise and Ginger Blue. Ginger Blue has had the special opportunity and honor of performing at Tribal Fest 9 and 10. This year Ginger Blue made their European debut and performed at Tribal Umrah in Nimes, France. Other special performances include performing at the international festival Folklife in Seattle, USA.
Martina has taught a full and intensive schedule in Vancouver, Canada — teaching up to 20 packed classes a week. She also taught many workshops in the Vancouver area specializing in Tribal Fusion technique. Her fast paced skills are highly sought, with meticulous detail to technique and drilling. Not only is Martina a busy dancer, choreographer, and teacher; she is also a respected host, promoter, and sponsor. In 2005 she started presenting a yearly show featuring her students and guest performers called Midsummer Bellies. A fast favorite and popular show within Vancouver. By 2006 Martina began hosting big name performers like Ariellah, Kami Liddle, Samantha Emmanuel (Hasthorpe), Solace, and her mentor and teacher Suhaila Salimpour.
